Most construction AI is built for the jobsite and the general contractor. Here is how four tools compare, and the one built for the owner’s side.

"Construction AI" covers a wide range of tools solving different problems for different people on a project, and the honest starting point for any "best of" list is admitting that most of the well-known names are built for the jobsite and the general contractor, not for the owner deciding which bid to approve. RICS’s 2025 global survey of more than 2,200 construction professionals found progress monitoring and scheduling are where AI is currently seen as most valuable (36% each), with cost management trailing at 25%.

Where each one is strongest

Trunk Tools is squarely a GC and trade-partner tool: TrunkSubmittal catches spec and submittal discrepancies before they cause rework, TrunkRFI cuts down on redundant requests, and TrunkBid analyzes bid packages for scope gaps during procurement, all run by the contractor managing the job.

Buildots solves a specific, well-defined problem: replacing subjective progress reports with camera-based, BIM-and-schedule-verified data. Autodesk Construction Cloud’s current AI features are narrower than broad "design optioneering" coverage might suggest: an assistant that answers documentation questions and AI-assisted RFI form completion.
